TH4Kids - Doctrine of End Times

What happens to people when they die?

It is always a sad thing when a person dies. It is especially sad with an unbeliever dies. When a person who is not forgiven of their sins dies their soul will be sent to punishment while they wait for the final judgment. When a believer dies their soul goes to Heaven to be with God and their body waits to be resurrected. They will receive their new body when Jesus comes back to earth.

Will Jesus come back?

Earlier on we learnt that Jesus came into the world to save sinners (1 Tim. 1:15). As we read the Bible, we also learn that He promised to come back one day (John 14:3). He will come back the same way He left the world (Acts 1:11). We are all to expect Him to return one day and this should cause us to be holy and obedient while we wait (2 Pet. 3:11). For those who love the Lord Jesus Christ this is very exciting!

What will Jesus do when He comes back?

When Jesus returns He will gather up all His people and they will be with Him forever (1 Thess. 4:17). He will judge all of His enemies (including the Devil) and He will be King of kings and Lord of lords. He will judge all people who are not forgiven (Matt. 25:41) and those who are forgiven will enjoy Him forever in Heaven (Matt. 25:34).

What is Heaven?

Heaven is the most amazing place you could ever think of. The Bible tells us lots of things about Heaven and gives it different names like, “Paradise” (Luke 23:43; 2 Cor. 12:2, 4; Rev. 2:7), a “heavenly country” (Hebrews 11:14-16) and a “kingdom” (Eph. 5:5). Here are some reasons why it is the most amazing place: (1) God is there (Rev. 21:3), (2) there will be no more sin (21:4-5), and (3) we will be with God’s people forever (1 Thess. 2:19). Heaven is an amazing place to look forward to.

What is Hell?

Hell is a real place created by God for the purpose of punishing all those who are not forgiven of their sins (Matt. 25:41). The Lord Jesus Christ described it as a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matt. 8:12), a fiery furnace (Matt. 13:42), outer darkness (Matt. 22:13), fire that doesn’t stop burning (Mark 9:48) and punishment that lasts forever (Matt. 25:46). Hell is a horrible and real place. Hell was “prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41) and will be the place of all who are not saved (Rev. 20:15).

TH4Kids - Doctrine of the Church

What is a Church?

When people talk about church, we might think of the building we meet in on Sundays. But that is not the church. The Church is the people who have been forgiven of their sins and who love the Lord Jesus Christ. These people who are all around the world meet with groups of other Christians, and these are called churches.

The Bible has lots of different names for the Church. Let’s looks at two different ways the Bible describes the church. Sometimes it is called a “Body” (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12-31). It is called a body because people in the church need each other and because they need to be led by the Head of the body (Col. 1:19). Another word is a “bride” (Eph. 5:25-27; Rev. 19:7-9). The church is a bride because the Lord Jesus Christ loves the church, leads the church and cares for the church.

Who is in charge of the Church?

The boss of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is in charge of the church because He bought the church. How did He buy it? Not with money, but with His own blood (1 Pet. 1:18-19). As the boss of the church the Bible calls Jesus the Head of the church (Eph. 1:22; 4:15; Col. 1:18).

Who leads a Church?

Even though the Lord Jesus Christ is in charge of the church, He has allowed certain people to lead the churches. The Bible has different names for these people, pastors and elders. Pastors and elders are to be men who live according to 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Their job is to teach the Word of God (1 Tim. 5:17) and to lead (Heb. 13:7, 17) and care (1 Tim. 3:5) for the church. You need to pray for your leaders and respect them (1 Thess. 5:12-13).

Why is Church important?

The church is important because Jesus bought her with His own blood (1 Pet. 1:18-19) and loves her (Eph. 5:25). Because those who have been saved are a part of the church, they are to help in the church with the gifts God has given them (Rom. 12:4-8). Some people have speaking gifts and others have serving gifts (1 Pet. 4:10-11). God gives people different gifts so that they can help the church grow and obey God’s Word.

What are the Lord’s Supper and Baptism?

The Lord’s Table and baptism are two special commands given to the church by the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 26:26-29; Matt. 28:19). They remind us of the work the Lord Jesus Christ has done for those who are forgiven of their sins and they show His people that they belong to Him.

The bread and wine at the Lord’s Supper remind us of the perfect life lived by the Lord Jesus Christ and of His death on the cross. It is a time to remember the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 11:24-25). The water of baptism reminds us of how God cleans the hearts of sinners (Titus 3:5) and makes them a new person through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Col. 2:12).

TH4Kids - Doctrine of Salvation

What is Salvation?

The only way people will not be judged and punished by God is if they can be rescued. This is called “salvation”. What do people need to be rescued from? All people need to be rescued from God’s punishment and from their own sin. We are all sinners (Rom. 3:23), which means we do not have peace with our Creator. This is why we all deserve to be punished by God.

Where does Salvation come from?

The only way for us to be saved from God’s punishment and from our sin is if God rescues us. We cannot save ourselves because we are sinful and unable to come to Him with our own efforts (Rom. 3:10-12). Because God is loving and kind, He has made a way for sinners to be saved (Rom. 5:8). It is important to understand that salvation comes from God alone (Psalm 3:8).

We cannot save ourselves
None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one (Romans 3:10-12)
God has made a way for sinners to be saved
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)
Salvation comes from God
Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people! (Psalm 3:8)

What is the New Birth?

How do sinful people who are unable to save themselves get rescued? Because they are “dead in their sins” (Eph. 2:1), they must receive the new birth (John 3:3). The new birth is God the Holy Spirit making you alive spiritually. When the Holy Spirit does this you are able to repent from your sin and believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. The new birth is having your sin washed away and being made new on the inside (Titus 3:5).

If we are going to be saved we must receive the new birth
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3)
The new birth is having your sin washed away and being made new on the inside
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5)

What is Repentance and Faith?

To repent means we turn away from our sin and turn to God (Acts 3:19). When we repent it is by God’s help that we realize that we are sinful and need forgiveness. So the Holy Spirit helps us turn from it and go to God for forgiveness. How do we receive this forgiveness? It comes through faith. Faith is trusting in all that the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us. Faith is only in the Lord Jesus Christ because only He can save sinners (Acts 4:12).

Repentance
Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out Acts 3:19
Faith
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God Ephesians 2:8

What are Good Works?

Good works are those things that God wants us to do. Good works do not save us (Eph. 2:9), but if you are saved you will want to do good works. The only works that save a sinner are the works of Jesus Christ. Because of His works, those who are forgiven obey Him because they love Him (John 14:15).

Good works do not save us
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Christians obey Jesus because they love Him
If you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:15)

TH4Kids - Doctrine of Man

Where did people come from?

God created the first man, and his name was Adam (Gen. 2:20). God created him from the dust of the ground. It was not good that he was alone so God made a helper for him (Gen. 2:18), and she was made from Adam’s side (Gen. 2:21-23). This helper became his wife and her name was Eve (Gen. 3:20). It was God’s plan that a man would marry a woman (Gen. 2:24) and have children (Gen. 1:28). When God made them, both the man and woman were holy and happy.

God created the first man
The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him (Genesis 2:20)
God made a helper for the first man
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18)
God made the first woman from the man’s side
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2:21-23)
The first woman became the Adam’s wife
The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20)
It is God’s plan that a man marries a woman
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24)

What is a person?

All people have come from their first parents – Adam and Eve. All people are made in the image of God (James 3:9). This does not mean that we look like God, but it does mean that we are able to love, be kind, and be creative. God created people so that they would worship and obey Him (Is. 43:7). He has made all people with a soul and a body. The souls of people will last forever but their body will grow old and die. Because all people have been made in the image of God the life of all people is precious.

People are made in the image of God
…people who are made in the likeness of God (James 3:9)
God made people to worship and obey Him
Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made (Isaiah 43:7)

What is the fall of man?

After God made man and woman, they disobeyed Him. Even though God was very good to them, they were not grateful. They ate the fruit that God said they couldn’t eat (Gen. 3:6). After they disobeyed God, they changed from being holy and happy to being sinful and sad. This leaves every single person in a terrible and helpless situation. Every person is a sinner (Rom. 3:23) and every person must be judged (Acts 17:31) and punished by God (John 3:36). But, there is good news! Read the next chapter to find out.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate (Genesis 3:6)
Every person is a sinner
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
Every Person deserves to be judged and punished by God
Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead (Acts 17:31)
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him (John 3:36)

TH4Kids - Doctrine of God

Who is God?

We cannot fully understand everything about God, but the Bible teaches us that we can know Him (Jer. 9:23-24). The only reason we can know who God is and what He is like is because He has told usIf God did not do this, we would never be able to know HimWho is God? God is the maker of the “heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1), He makes everything in the universe work (Neh. 9:6), and He rules over the entire universe (Psalm 115:3). The Bible says that there is one God (Is. 44:6). You might notice that the world isfilled with many “gods” but these are idols that people have made. Even though there is only one God, He exists in three Persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13:14). We can call these three Persons the Holy Trinity.

We can know God
Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
God is the Creator
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1)
God make everything work
You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you (Nehemiah 9:6)
God rules over everything
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases (Psalm 115:3)
There is one God
Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:“I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god” (Isaiah 44:6)
God exists in three Persons
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all (2 Corinthians 13:14)

Who is God the Father?

God the Father is the first Person of the Holy Trinity. He is called the Father because of His relation to the second Person of the Trinity (God the Son). As the Father He created all things through His Son (1 Cor. 8:6) and planned all things that will ever happen (Rom. 11:36). Before the world was around He chose those who would be saved (Eph. 1:4) as a gift to His Son (John 17:2, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 24).

The Father created all things through His Son
Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist (1 Corinthians 8:6)
The Father planned all things
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen (Romans 11:36)
The Father chose who would be saved
Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love(Ephesians 1:4)

Who is God the Son?

God the Son is the second Person of the Trinity. Like the Father, the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) has always been around (John 1:1-2). He was appointed by the Father to come into the world and become a man. He lived a perfect life on earth without ever sinning! He suffered and became a sacrifice on the cross for sinners. He died, was buried and came alive again on the third day (1 Cor. 15:3-4) and went back to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father (Heb. 1:3). Jesus Christ is the only way we can receive salvation from sin (John 14:6).

Jesus has always been around
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God(John 1:1-2)
Jesus died, was buried and arose the third day
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
Jesus went back to Heaven
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (Hebrews 1:3)
Jesus is the only way to be saved
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6)

Who is God the Holy Spirit?

God the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. He shows people how wonderful the Lord Jesus Christ is (John 16:14) and He helps sinners believe in the Son of God. When someone believes in the Son of God He gives him or her gifts so that they can encourage other Christians (1 Cor. 12:7). The Holy Spirit lives within every Christian and helps them become more like the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:16-17; Rom. 8:14-17).

The Holy Spirit shows us how wonderful Jesus is
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you (John 16:14)
The gives Christians Spiritual Gifts
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7)
The Holy Spirit lives within every Christian
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:14-17)

TH4Kids - Doctrine of Scripture

Where Can we go to Find out About God?

We can ask our dad and mum, other family members or the pastor at church. But where do they learn about God? The one place we can go to that gives us all the answers we need is God’s book. Another name for this book is the Bible. The Bible is very special because it is what God has spoken and it tells us what we need to know about Him.

What is the Bible?

The Bible is made up of 66 different books. Some of them are really short and others are really long. These 66 books are divided into two parts – the Old Testament (39 books) and the New Testament (27 books). The Bible is not a normal book because the Bible is God’s Word. It comes from Him and tells us about Him. The Bible tells us about God, people, sin and Jesus.

Who Wrote the Bible?

God wrote the Bible, but He did this by choosing around forty men who wrote what God wanted them to write (2 Pet. 1:21). These men came from three different continents (Asia, Africa and Europe) over a time of around 1,600 years. Even though they all didn’t know each other or discuss what they were writing, their words were true because they wrote what God wanted them to write.

Why is the Bible Important?

The Bible is important because it is God’s Word (1 Thess. 2:13). God’s Word is true (John 17:17), precious (Psalm 19:10), and helpful (2 Tim. 3:16). The Bible is the only book that can give us the truth about God and how we can know Him. Also, the Bible tells us what God’s hates and what God loves. As we read and study the Bible, we are able to know and obey God’s ways.

The Bible is God’s Word
And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

The Bible is True
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth (John 17:17)

The Bible is Precious
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb (Psalm 19:10)

The Bible is Helpful
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)
